Why Probiotics for Dog Diarrhea?

It is commonly believed that the microorganisms in probiotics provide numerous benefits in the body including a stronger immune system, the reduction in pathogenic microorganisms in the gastrointestinal tract, a decrease in GI discomfort, the promotion of regular bowel movements, a reduction in bloating and gas, and a decrease in oxidative damage to proteins in the body.

Benefits of Probiotics for Dogs

Good bacteria help your dog digest food and absorb the nutrients. Good bacteria also displace the bad types of bacteria in your dog’s intestines that cause your dog to get sick. This intestinal flora forms a natural defense which keeps opportunistic pathogens (like Salmonella and Escherichia coli) from taking hold and proliferating. Probiotics for dogs trigger the canine immune system thus increasing the level of antibodies in your dog. Probiotics help your dog’s intestinal track maintain a good flora balance. The five custom formulated probiotics in Diarrice™ have been specially selected for their ability to support intestinal health.

L. acidophilus fermentation products are triggered on ingesting Diarrice™ and help to maintain normal bacteria balance in the lower intestine and aid in digestion while they help promote gut health.

L. Plantarum fermentation products produce significant antioxidant activity and also help suppress the growth of gas-producing bacteria in the gut.

E. faecium fermentation products are a strain of beneficial bacteria native to dogs and are frequently recommended to help with diarrhea or IBS.

B. subtilis fermentation product is a ‘good bacteria’ that helps protect the intestines from colonization of bad bacteria, aids in fighting off diseases, helps food absorption, helps ward off disease, and helps eliminate toxins and waste.

B. licheniformis fermentation product thrive in the acidic atmosphere in a dog’s intestine and can multiply to help in healthy digestion of food and resetting of pH balance.

What to Feed a Dog With Diarrhea

When the first signs of diarrhea appear in your dog or puppy, your first instinct might be to grab some rice from your pantry or a can of pureed pumpkin. You probably have experience with these foodstuffs working for yourself and your family when they suffer from the discomfort of diarrhea.

When you think about the physiology of a dog’s digestive system, you probably know that dogs are carnivores or meat eaters. Their GI tracts are suitable to digesting meats, poultry, and fish. And although people have been feeding their dogs scraps from the table for centuries, not enough “evolutionary time” has passed for their systems to evolve enough to digest whole grains.

Under normal GI conditions, consumed rice just passes through the GI tract of a dog’s digestive system without their nutrient and fiber benefits getting absorbed. No harm has been done, but no benefit has been gained, either.

Under the abnormal gut conditions that produce diarrhea, the added stress of asking that system to digest whole grains only makes the condition worse. So instead of helping your dog with white or brown rice, you are making it harder for the GI tract to return to its normal, balanced state.

The Instinctive Solution for Diarrhea in Dogs

That’s why we developed Diarrice™. Instinctively, you know what to do to help your dog, you just need the right form of rice to give to your dog when he or she has diarrhea.

Diarrice™ has a long shelf life so you can store it in your pantry or cupboard until your dog has another episode of diarrhea. If you have a puppy, this can be quite often. (As you probably know, puppies get into everything and whatever it is usually ends up in their mouth!)

Of course, you will want to check with your veterinarian if your dog or puppy’s condition lasts for more than 2 or 3 days. Diarrice™ has been specially developed by a veterinarian and pet food scientists to provide the optimal support for irritated GI tracts in puppies and dogs based on their decades of experience in dog nutrition and in in-clinic care.
